Switch

This page is all about the CART 360 project.

Here is what I was asked to do : make a switch.

Easy, I said! Here is the story of that switch.

My beerLED bottle has a beautiful casing made of transparent tape, copper wire, 2 RJ1130 1.5V batteries and a blue LED, all wrapped around what was once a delicious Alexander Keith’s pale ale.

Here is one of the preliminary schematics that I drew.

So on the technical side, this is pretty straightforward. The circuit closes when a conductive liquid passes though the two lead in the bottle opening therefore creating LIGHT! I found out that a saturated saline solution is somewhere near 5 000 000 times more conductive than pure water. That said, tap water is mineralised enough and works fine.

Building it is a whole other story though. Most of the parts come from either a Guitar Hero cereal box toy, copper wire graciously donated by Ramy, and my own one LED.

Here are some pictures of the process.

The final product!

The final product!

So there we go.
